Training Our Dogs

Patriotic Service Dog Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on serving our veterans by raising awareness for their needs and providing Service Dogs to those who may benefit from long-term mental and physical assistance. Through the efforts of Patriotic Service Dog Foundation our wounded veterans are matched with highly trained and skilled Service Dogs that allow their new partners to become more independent, self-confident, and comfortable with life outside of the military/law enforcement. Our close knit community of volunteers and professional trainers work alongside deserving veterans to develop lasting and meaningful bonds with dogs that provide so much more than just companionship.

Block

The dog creates a barrier for its handler by stepping in front to block people from approaching too closely.

Interrupt

The dog uses tactile stimulation to bring his handler to full awareness during emotional distress.

Retrieve

The dog retrieves various items and brings them directly to their handler

Pull

The dog assists their handler by opening doors and holding them in place to allow entry.

Cover

The dog stands or sits next to his handler, facing backwards as to "cover his back." 

Lights

The dog assists their handler by turning on and off light switches.

Brace

The dog utilizes a rigid stance to provide support for their handler.
