Tom Tackett and The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation has made an extreme difference in my quality of life from the services provided. I was introduced to Tom and his team in 2014 while recovering from injuries incurred while serving in the United States Marine Corps. After approximately 18 months of vigorous training, Cuse and I were officially able to be called a Service Dog team. Cuse is able to perform multiple disability mitigating tasks which include, but are not limited to, picking up dropped items and disrupting unwanted behaviors. To this day I receive continued support on any training questions or concerns I have about my service dog or anything for that fact. Tom and his team are compassionate yet realistic, and don't beat around the bush when it come to your success as a team, or in life. I have, and will continue to recommend this organization to anyone I know that could benefit from their help, and am thankful to found them and be a part of such a great organization.

JEREMY R. & BEAR
ARMY COMBAT MEDIC
Certified on 8/24/18
I am a 3-time Iraq War Veteran, and over the last 14 years have struggled with poor mental health. After completing various forms of counseling while on active duty and through the Veterans Affairs, I have continued to struggle with pain from traumatic combat-related memories, never feeling any better, which has taken a toll on how I communicate, often feeling angry and bitter towards others, but mostly toward myself. A couple of year ago I was fortunate to receive service-dog support from the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation (PSDF). After applying for support through several organizations, I found myself on long waiting lists with no responses. After learning about PSDF and through my wife’s encouragement, I reached out to Tom and Terri to learn more about their organization. Their communication was very responsive and welcoming, and they invited my wife and I to their training center to learn more. We discussed what I had in mind for service-dog support, and they explained program details for what could potentially be provided.
My wife and I visited several more times, attending classes with Veteran and service-dog teams. I was able to observe and listen to how each team was making progress – where they were experiencing challenges as well as achievements. Service dog trainers were all very patient at helping address training concerns, working closely with teams to observe them in action and making suggestions on how to improve team performance. The service dogs I observed were all very well behaved and expertly trained. What I noticed was since the animals could easily perform a variety of commands, much of the training was actually for the Veteran handlers – to bring us up to speed with knowing the service dogs’ abilities and how to safely and effectively manage them at home and in public. I am happy to say I have been paired with my service dog, Bear, for a couple of years now, and the medical assistance he provides has helped me to interact with my social surroundings and improve my overall health status and quality of life.
I am a veteran with PTSD, and simply knowing I can always call on PSDF and know there are people who care about my well-being and are rooting for my success has meant the world to me. I have felt broken for a long time, but now, I wake up to Bear’s energetic spirit nudging me and licking my face – I am most comforted. There are times when Bear knows I am mentally overwhelmed, full of anxiety and depression, but he is trained to pick up on these cues and react with a tactile response, pushing me and licking my hands or face to help break me out of these difficult moments. I haven’t felt any better until I had Bear, I am now able to sleep well, interact with public spaces, and communicate well with others, as well as appreciate life again. I would recommend every Veteran with PTSD consider service dog assistance, and I trust the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation will help them thrive.

I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1987-1992, an Honorable 5 years. I had an accident which resulted in a fracture of my lower back and ended my military career. During my career I served as a Mountain Warfare Instructor, Supply and did a mandatory 6 month West Pac where I was briefly in the Gulf, Philippines, and India (Operation Sea Angel) based out of Okinawa. Years later I would find out I struggled with PTSD for the next 2 decades. I had 4 major spinal cord surgeries and intense PTSD help at Mira Lona and Long Beach VA. These 20 years were dark, I describe myself as a Deadman walking, a prisoner of my own skin, unable to leave my house. Thoughts of ending my life seemed a better way. In the fall of 2018 my VA psychiatrist suggested I look into getting a service dog. My wife gave me the website to The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. The hard work and spiritual battle began. The bond with my boy Fury gradually grew and to train hard for the next months was tough. I was fighting for my life but now, I was not alone, Fury and The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation were my new family and friends. I’m actually tearing up writing this. Today I am fully certified and Fury and I work, train and walk every day! I am able to leave the house, go places like the store, mall and beach. I have my freedom back. I have my relationship with family back. My health is better and I have gotten off most of my medication. The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation’s hard work and commitment saved my life. I am a better Father, Friend and Husband today.
Thank you and much love,

I first found this foundation in 2016, while at the time I had a lot in my plate and could not partake in program at that time, Tom still kept me involved and up to date until the time came I was approved to begin the training with my service dog. This program does not just stick you with whatever dog they have available. Tom and his team do their absolute best to find a dog and work with you that fits your direct and unique needs. And after completing the program you are still encouraged and welcome to continue training and being part of this "family" because that is what it becomes. Tom and his team are by far the best trainers in the business in my opinion.

LATOSHA A. & LINCOLN
AIRFORCE
Certified on 10/14/2020
After serving in the Air Force, I fell victim to PTSD and the constant anguish it has caused in my life. Struggling every day to find the hope to continue on, put me in one of the darkest places of my life. The depression, the terrible anxiety and panic attacks, the terrifying nightmares, and the fear that consumed my life – started to negatively impact my relationships with others. After countless medications prescribed by the Veterans Administration and several different therapists, I was beginning to lose hope of ever living a happy life again.
After a little over seven years of feeling defeated, I took the advice of another fellow veteran and looked into getting a service dog. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first, and couldn’t imagine a dog being able to help me out of the dark place I was in. But it was my last hope. I had no idea what to expect the morning I showed up to the Triple T Ranch. Little did I know, my journey down that long, dark hole was about to come to an end. On October 8th, 2020, Tom and Terri Tackett welcomed me with open arms to the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. After spending a couple hours interacting with a few of the dogs I started to feel anxious, because I didn’t feel that magical bond that others have described. Until…this incredibly handsome Labrador Retriever, named Lincoln, ran up to me with so much excitement and enthusiasm. I witnessed for the first time some of the most intense feelings that I hadn’t felt in a very long time. Lincoln chose me that day, and has chosen me every single day since.
I could not imagine a life without Lincoln, now. His hard work, dedication, love, and unconditional loyalty means everything to me. His display of intelligence while performing critical tasks helps ease my mind and stress throughout each day. Lincoln recognizes when my anxiety levels are rising and either redirects my attention to him, or uses pressure therapy with the weight of his body to calm me down. He has allowed me to find happiness again in the things I used to enjoy doing like hiking, working out, hanging out with friends, and playing sports.
I owe my life to the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation, along with Tom and Terri Tackett, who brought me into their family and treated me as one of their own from day one. I am forever grateful for their dedication to providing training, support, and service to veterans who deserve a second chance at living a happy, healthy life.

I get compliments everywhere I go from friends and strangers alike on how well-behaved my service dog Gentle Ben is. He's a German Shepherd and turns plenty of heads so I know people are watching all the time. I can take Ben with me into all kinds of situations because of the extensive training he received at The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. I would have NEVER been able to get a dog, let alone a male German Shepherd, to be this well-trained and well-behaved on my own. I'm so grateful for my new best friend Ben who helps me get through my day-to-day when things are difficult for me and for all the work Tom and the team at The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation put into him.

How does one deal with situational anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? There is no handbook and there is no quick fix. I know this because I dealt with it for 10 years before I got the help I really needed. Being by the side of a friend/brother, when they are killed suddenly and violently is something that will always stay with you. Remembering the sounds that men made when they were taking their last breath is something you cannot forget, no matter how good your life becomes after that. I have a beautiful wife and an amazing son. I have a career in the Marine Corps that is flourishing. I have everything I could want, so why was I not able to just get over it and be happy? The reason that I couldn’t is because that is not how it works. You don’t just wake up one day and suddenly poof it’s gone. There is no magic pill to erase all the pain and make everything better. Having 10 years of a wonderful life could not fix it because I was not truly living as I should. Part of me was still living in the past and I was bringing my family down with me. That is, until I found Tom and the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. Once I met Tom and his wife Terri I realized that I could live a life in the present with the help of a service dog. Not just a dog, but a buddy that wouldn’t judge me or tell me that I should just get over it. A buddy who is there to remind me to be present in the moment. A buddy trained to be exactly what I need when I need it and who loves me whether we are playing ball or sitting quiet. The training was not easy, it’s not just picking up a leash and having a dog listen to every command. It takes time, patience, and dedication. However, the moment you and your K9 companion can see eye to eye and you realize they have your back no matter what, is the moment you realize you can take your life back. Relationships like the one with your own service dog is what makes service members, myself included, feel that we can live again. That bond reminds us that we matter, and that we are not alone. They will be there loving us, supporting us, and encouraging us at any time and any place. That is what Reveille has done for me. She has given me courage and confidence to go out and live life knowing that she will be there for me, by my side, whenever I need her. I know that when I look in her eyes that she loves me as much as I love her. I know that she has my back, supports me, and never doubts me. This has made me a better husband, father, friend, and Marine. But even more so, she has made me a better me, for me. Thank you for your support and donations to make this amazing opportunity possible for me and other service members like me. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

JAMES M. & DOC
NAVY
I am a Veteran of the United States Navy which I served 6 years. Serving in the Navy was one of the greatest times in my life. It gave me purpose and honor in serving the greatest nation. I deployed in places such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and parts of Africa. Since being out of the Navy I always believed that I was okay and handling life great, but when my wife, daughter and friends suggested that I needed to get help I decided to see what my options were. It was hard for me to search for help since I always feel that there is always another Veteran out there that needs help more than I do. Especially when you hear what limited funds there are and Vets that are homeless or need medical help that cannot get it. I feel that my Brothers in Arms need it more. My friends Chris and Jen Thomas suggested I talk to Tom and Terri and look into getting a service dog. I was paired up with Doc and there are no words that I could say on how grateful and honored I am to have Doc in my life. I needed Doc even more recently. I have been going through an even tougher time lately. I have been seeing a Neurologist because I just started to have seizures. I was told by my Doctor that do to my past head trauma I now have epilepsy and will have seizures for the rest of my life. My whole life I have always tried to do everything on my own and now having to rely on others is just so hard for me to come to grips with. When Doc is near me, he gives the feeling of having my brothers that I served with by my side again. All he wants to do is help me without judgement or sympathy. Thank you all for sponsoring such a wonderful FRIEND. Y’alll have to have a great heart to sponsor a service dog for someone that you don’t know. I will never be able to repay the kindness that Patriotic Service Dog Foundation has done for all the Veterans and myself.
Warm Regards,

NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS

As a Veteran suffering from PTSD I lost just about everything and everyone I love in my life. After years of suffering I finally reached the bottom. I was alone, afraid, angry all the time, and lost in so much pain every day. I was out of options. I kept going to the VA hospital, but it just wasn’t enough. I didn’t want them to keep pushing meds on me. And those around me who loved me enough to still stand by my side, no matter how angry or depressed, knew I needed help. So, they reached out to one of my former Marines I served with in Iraq. It was that Marine who gave us the Intel on the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation.
In August of 2015, I took the 3 thousand mile trip from Long Island, New York to Orange, California. That’s when I met Tom Tackett and his staff. Most importantly, I met a beautiful fox red Labrador named Indy...short for Independence...who would soon change my life. I spent a week at the facility training with Indy. I tried to get to know her and the staff. They all welcomed me with open arms. They all treated me like I was one of their own...like I was family. And for people who go through what I do, it’s the warmest feeling in the world. I was part of a team again. I remember the thoughts going through my head on the flight home.
Would this really help me? Can I get the time to fly out and train? Was I ready?
I flew back to California in October. I stayed 10 days that time. I picked up my rental car and drove to the training field. I kept wondering if Indy would remember who I was. When I pulled up to the building I quickly ran to the back to see her. I turned the corner and there she was in her kennel. No bark, no wagging tail, just a calm dog. Figures... she forgot. When I let her out of the kennel, I couldn't have been more wrong. After a big wet kiss and a 300 mph butt wiggle, we were right back to work.
Tom has two trainers that have helped me out incredibly. Delaree Hart and Milan Franklin. They opened their house to me and Indy to stay. They also worked with Indy and me every day and night I was there. To me, the amusing part about learning to train with dogs, are all the bad habits they as trainers have to unteach. Del and Milan quickly went to work on me. And the best part was that I stayed with them, so they pretty much had eyes on me the whole time. Let’s just say the first few days were all about me. Indy was fine. Working with the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation team was so cool. It really opened my eyes. To see how they all pull together as a team to help everyone out. OUTSTANDING! Every person I met was so nice and understanding of my situation. Ten days flew by way too fast, but this time it wasn’t so bad leaving. Indy and I have created the bond I was hoping for.
At the end of November my family and friends threw a fundraiser for the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. Tom and Terri Tackett flew to New York to attend. And they brought with them a very special guest, Indy! At our fundraiser Indy was such a hit. Many people showed up from our town to support us. Lots of donations were made, speeches were given, bands played, and everyone became family. It was that night that Tom decided to let Indy stay in NY until I fly back to California to continue my training. I cried with joy. The next 50 days or so was a great learning experience for us. It gave Indy and me the opportunity to get used to my way of life. She kept me focused. She came to work with me everyday. We ate at restaurants, went to watch games with friends, and tagged along to family events. She was also my carpool buddy. Indy kept me on a strict doggy schedule. She also kept me calm, relaxed, and in check. The emotional bond her and I share now is unbreakable.
So, I just left California a few days ago. And I left my best friend behind to continue her training in the amazing care of Tom Tackett and his proud staff. I have no doubts she is in great care. What this organization does for Veterans with PTSD is give us a part of our lives back. Not all of course, but the part many us truly need to help rebuild, the foundation of our souls. So, I want to thank the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation for everything they've done for me in the past six months. All of you have hearts the size of oceans! And I want you to know that Indy has saved my life. Don’t ever stop what you're doing.

I received my Service Dog, Sully from Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. Tom, Terri, and their staff are awesome. I had been trying to get a dog for about 3 years, from another organization with no success. I sent an email one evening requesting an application. The very next morning Tom Tackett called me asking what I was looking for and sent me an application. By the next day I had all the paperwork in to him and we were setting up a date to come and see them. I was very impressed with Tom and how fast he got the process going, and his straight direct attitude. I was further impressed when my wife and I arrived, met Sully, Tom, Terri, staff , and the ranch. I felt comfortable, and safe. Meeting other vets, it was great to be around others that had similar experiences as I did.
My service dog Sully has changed my life for the better. Any questions I may have even after Sully and I got certified Tom is there to answer or help with. Sully and the whole process was at no cost to me, or any Vet or First Responders. What a gift and blessing The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation is. Any Veteran that is struggling with being back in the world, needs to contact Tom Tackett and the Patriotic service dog foundation.

In 2016 I was medically separated from the military after 11 years, I struggled with physical and mental disabilities that prevented me from holding a job,
gave me extreme social anxiety, and caused me to have extreme paranoia and chronic panic attacks. After many suggestions from family, friends, fellow
veterans and occupational therapists, I started pursuing the possibility of
getting a service dog. After looking all over for a program that could help
someone with my issues and financial status, I started to hear about
Tom Tackett and the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. After the third person
I ran into with a SD and seeing how well behaved the dog was, I gave him a
call and my life changed forever. After beginning training with PSDF my life took a huge turn for the better, while
I was living about 1.5 hours away from Tom's ranch, and normally hated driving, I couldn't wait to get up and get in the car to go train. Eventually, I started asking if I could come and help out at the kennel because I just couldn't get enough of that feeling I had, not just with the Service Dog "Nitro" that I was paired with, but the feeling of calm, serenity, brotherhood and PURPOSE I got whenever I was on the Triple T Ranch (Tom and Terri Tackett's Ranch).
My life since receiving my Service Dog from PSDF is incomparable, I went from:
Living with my parents (with my wife and son) to buying a house and moving to Texas.
Shying away from crowds and social events to participating in public speaking events.
Being unemployed to working in a position that requires a lot of planning, foresight, concentration, and self-confidence, traits I thought would be gone forever from my life.
Feeling withdrawn from everyone, even my family, to being in our best married years to date and growing our family!
There is so much to be thankful for in my life, and I don't know if I'd be seeing any of this if I hadn't met Tom and Terri.

I thank my lucky stars each day that I was lucky enough to stumble across the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation, along with Tom and Terri Tackett, in my search for a service dog. Lo and behold, they were located nearby and I was able to go out and meet them only a couple of days after I first spoke with Tom on the phone.
For years I grappled with chronic headaches, pain and PTSD/TBI, among other issues, silently. I never really realized, aside from the obvious physical pain, how much they had been affecting my everyday life, but it had slowly started taking over.
You always hear about those moments that change your life for the better, right? But sometimes they can be hard to identify. Well, when I look back on the day I first set foot on the PSDF training field, something just clicked. I was warmly welcomed immediately by Tom and Terri, as well as other individuals that were there for service dog training. There was never an awkward moment, I felt comfortable and at home for the first time in a very long time. After being medically retired from the Coast Guard due to injury, I struggled for years to find a sense of purpose, to regain a feeling of camaraderie similar to that which I had found with my shipmates, and a place that felt like I belonged.
I have been lucky enough to find all three through the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. Tom, Terri and their team have become like family to not just me, but also to those closest to me.
My situation with work at first did not lend to bringing home a service dog of my own, so I volunteered to help in whatever way I could. Tom, his team and my family noticed a positive difference in me overall, though I think we all sensed something was still missing despite this positive turn of events. Tom and his team went out of their way to help me come up with a plan for work that would enable me to be paired with a dog. I was then paired with an amazing English Labrador named Ranger.
This beautiful soul has completely changed my life in more ways than I can possibly express. He makes me laugh dozens of times on a daily basis, chases my depressed moods away with his funny little quirks and personality, and he watches my back always. He has become my closest friend and confidant. I honestly don't know what I would do without him. That sense of purpose I was looking for? As much as I depend on Ranger, he also depends on me to care for him. This gives me a reason to push through whatever has got me down each day and to be the best I can be for him. I wake up every morning to hot puppy breath and cuddles for a morning greeting, which always brings a smile to my face. I can't think of a better wake-up call than that!!
Thank you to Tom, Terri, and the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation for the incredible gift you have given me.

AMY Q. & BEN
NAVY
Certified on 12/22/16
I left the Navy in 2005 and was diagnosed with PTSD after being raped and tortured. I was also struggling with communication problems, balance issues, depression, extreme anxiety, nightmares… After countless medications from the Veterans Administration to help my medical issues I finally was connected to Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. I initially met Tom and Terri Tackett through a friend that introduced us because he knew I needed help training my new pup Obi Wan Kenobi who was given to me by the Darley Project. Obi Wan was a golden doodle but soon after in the program failed out because of his own anxiety and separation issues. I was heart broken but I knew that I needed a new way of living and without a service dog the nightmares would continue and I would continue on all my other medications. After speaking with Tom about what I was looking for he gave me some options but when he offered for me to meet Ben, I was excited. Ben was Tom’s personal dog that he donated to the foundation to help a veteran. Ben was a black German shepherd that was an amazing dog. The day I met Ben for the first time, I will never forget. Tom was working with Ben in the outside pen when I pulled up. I walked up to Tom and Ben and that is when I knew that Ben was going to be the one. Ben came up to me and we connected right away. The first night I had Ben he was in his kennel but started to whine. I knew at that moment I was having an anxiety attack and realized that Ben felt what I was going through. I let him out of his kennel and he jumped up on the bed and just comforted me. For the first time, I felt relieved. I didn’t have to run to my medications to calm me, I now had Ben. Since I’ve had Ben he has allowed me to have a new perspective on life. He reduced my night terrors overtime and I got off all medications except the one that was essential to my medical condition. Ben has an amazing sense about him where at any moment my mood changes he automatically notices it. I have struggled since being out of the service to understand what the purpose of my life was but Ben has allowed me to recognize that. I can’t thank the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation enough for what they did for me and continue to do for me. Tom and Terri Tackett are family and I will forever be grateful to them. Life is full of obstacles and I am glad that selfless people exist to give veterans a new outlook and hope in life.

My name is Larry Nunn; I suffer from PTSD and other injuries related to combat. PTSD has caused life- altering changes for me. However, I found hope in a well-trained service animal, a “best friend”. I say best friend because that is what the service animal becomes, it is a best friend that helps you feel comfortable in your own skin and can help make life fun again. All of this was made possible because of Tackett Service Dogs and Patriotic Service Dog Foundation and all those who support their cause.
How do Service Dogs’ help with PTSD? “Shooter” my service dog identifies panic attacks, redirecting me from a situation that may trigger a reaction, wakes me up when I am having a nightmare, watches behind me when I am at ATMs’ or anywhere else where my back is exposed. Shooter can create a barrier between the public and I allowing me not feel closed in. These are just a few things a service dog can do to help out a veteran suffering from PTSD. Tom and his crew have been the nicest people, not only to me but also to my family. The training atmosphere is friendly and inviting. It takes a lot to let down your guard when a person has PTSD but the environment is perfect and easy to relax in. I highly recommend Tackett Service Dogs.

MARINE CORPS CAPTAIN

How do you put into words events or people that change your life? Different events affect people in different ways, and over the past year the difficulty of a wife and best friend deployed, brought challenges I never thought I’d face in my life. How these challenges would have affected my life will forever be a question I will not have an answer for. Had it not been for Ares, I know my experience would have been significantly different.
Ares is a 15-month-old, 105-pound Cane Corso, also known as an Italian Mastiff. He came into our life when he was eight weeks old and four pounds! Over the past 13 months we’ve watched him grow with our family, along with children, dogs, seniors, and those who have health problems. Without the training we have received from the folks we now call family at Tackett Service Dogs, we may have never been able to bring happiness to all those listed above. Most importantly, Ares has brought a new sense of purpose into my life, one that helps me wake up every morning knowing I have something to care for beyond myself.
I have served as a Marine for 14 years, and have grown through the ranks from a private-first-class to a captain. After serving in Iraq in 2004-2005 in Al Anbar province, three years after my return I suffered from issues related to PTSD and TBI. Having a service dog in my life, helps bring me back to the moment upon receiving the unconditional love that a dog always provides. Ares could care less if I had a good day or a bad day; the only thing Ares cares about is pleasing me, and I can only wish that I can bring him that same joy. With gums flapping in the wind during every car ride, never a day goes by that he doesn’t bring a smile and joy into my heart.
Lastly, none of this may have been possible without the help of Tom Tackett who brought Ares, my wife and me into the Tackett family. I will forever be indebted and grateful for the opportunity I received to train Ares into a partner and a friend that can always be by my side, and who always brings me back to the moment. My life will forever be better for this incredible opportunity.
