our program
Through the efforts of Patriotic Service Dog Foundation our wounded veterans are matched with highly trained and skilled Service Dogs that allow their new partners to become more independent, self-confident, and comfortable with life outside of the military/first responder communities. Our close knit community of volunteers and professional trainers work alongside deserving veterans to develop lasting and meaningful bonds with dogs that provide so much more than just companionship.

- DD-214 with Honorable Discharge (If applicable)
Along with these documents each candidate will need to fill out a Patriotic Service Dog Foundation application.

After receipt of the application and documents, The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation will evaluate each applicant on a case by case basis. If accepted, each potential recipient will need to come out to our facility to meet with our staff and our available service dogs. If we feel a veteran is a potential match with one of our dogs we will require them if local to come out to training a minimum of 2 times per week to work/bond with the dog. Out of the area veterans will need to train with us 2-3 times for a one week stay. During this time the veteran will also learn how to properly care, handle and work with our dog in a positive and constructive manner.
* Please note, Tackett Service Dogs, Inc. retains full ownership of the dog through its working years. Once retired, the recipient may adopt the dog.

Can YOUR Dog Hack It With Tackett?
If you have your own dog that you would like to train as a service dog and you have applied/been accepted to our program, we will evaluate your dog's temperament for service work. If acceptable, the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation will sponsor the training for you and your dog. However, service work requires a very specific temperament which most dogs simply do not have. Training your own dog requires you to live local to us and attend classes 2x per week. If you have not yet purchased a dog and would like to do so in order to train as a service dog, please do not do so without the help of our staff. If you or a loved one could benefit from one of our service dogs, please don't wait any longer. Contact us today! |
